Start with the artwork and base fabric. Decoration suitability depends on the cap construction, fabric, placement, colour count, line thickness and intended use. A physical sample is the best way to confirm the result.

3D puff embroidery. A raised embroidered effect suited to bold lettering and simple shapes. Very fine lines, small text and gradients may need simplification. Confirm foam, stitch density and coverage on a sample.

Flat embroidery. A versatile choice for logos, lettering and many classic cap designs. Artwork still needs suitable line weights and detail for the chosen size. Thread colours and stitch direction affect the result.

Woven patches. Useful for detailed artwork and small text that may not translate well to direct embroidery. Confirm patch size, border, backing, attachment and placement. Natural or synthetic materials can create different visual effects.

Leather-look and leather patches. Often used for outdoor, workwear or heritage styling. Specify the exact material rather than relying on the word leather. Embossing, debossing and printing produce different results; natural materials may vary in colour and grain.

Sublimation. Dye-sublimation can reproduce continuous colour and all-over artwork on compatible polyester materials. Base colour, fabric construction and profile can affect appearance. Confirm the printable area and expected colour tolerance.

Screen printing. A practical option for suitable flat surfaces and selected artwork. Fine detail, seams, curved areas and textured fabrics require review. Ink system and fabric compatibility should be tested.

Heat transfer. Transfers can support detailed or multicolour artwork on compatible materials. Appearance, hand feel, stretch, wash performance and edge definition depend on the transfer system. Test on the actual base fabric.

How to choose. Send vector artwork where available, the intended dimensions and placement, and a reference for the desired finish. Ask for comparable samples or a project sample before approving bulk production. Cost, MOQ and timing are confirmed against the complete specification.
